How can I tell if my roof has been damaged by hail or ice?

Do you add or replace vents and insulation during roof installation?

During the first meeting and roof assessment we will examine all roof features and include recommendations in the estimate. How can I tell if my asphalt shingle roof needs replacement?

If you know the age of your roof and its getting close to its expected lifespan, you should prepare to replace it. Other tell-tale signs that your shingle roof needs replacement include cracked or missing shingles, shingles that are curling at the edges, and smooth dark areas on shingles which are a result of the protective granules wearing away.

My asphalt shingles are discolored, is this normal?

Discoloration of your asphalt shingles is generally caused by two factors, algae or age. Discoloration by algae isn’t a sign of damage, but it is unsightly and can be treated with a bleach and water solution. Discoloration caused by age, which appears as smooth or shiny spots on your shingles, is a sign that your roof needs replacement.

Will you install a new roof over old shingles?

It is never ok to install a new roof over old shingles. A reputable roofing contractor will always remove your old shingles or roof before putting on your new roof. It is the only way they can be sure that what’s under your old roof is in good condition and to ensure the manufacturer honors your warranty.

Do I have to replace the wood underneath my roof?

Wood sheathing that has been damaged by water will need replacement before your new roof is installed. We will replace sheathing if necessary and during our initial assessment of your roof will check for water damage or rot. If we discover any damage, we will include replacement cost in the estimate. If damaged sheathing is discovered during the tear off of your old roof we will write a new estimate for you, so you are aware of the additional cost.

Should I have my roof inspected on a regular basis?

We recommend taking time twice a year to examine your roof. For most homeowners, a simple walk around your house can reveal any problems or issues with your roof. If you have high peaks, low-pitch sections or your roof isn’t easily visible from the ground, it’s best to leave the inspection to the professionals who know the safety procedures necessary to safely inspect a roof.
